WANTED! AMBASSADORS FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

As 2014 comes to an end, I believe now is the time to prayerfully consider what may lie ahead and how we ought to respond. Over the last twelve months I’ve met many people with a foreboding sense that tough times are ahead – a sentiment I concur with. Whatever the future holds we must remember we are but pilgrims on a journey – travellers in time and space, living in a world to which we don’t belong. It is written that on this journey we are to be ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), appealing on His behalf to the people in this world, that they would choose to be reconciled to the Father. In order to be obedient to this part of our calling, we must first understand what the role of an ambassador is. According to the Oxford Dictionary, an ambassador is “an accredited diplomat sent by a state as its permanent representative in a foreign country”. In other words, they represent their respective kingdoms with the full authority and understanding of their government or leader. If there is a kingdom-related question to be answered, an ambassador can be summoned to give an explanation. We, as ambassadors for Christ, are being called to represent His kingdom here on earth. We are His servants; called and made righteous by faith in Jesus, to carry out good works. Ambassadors don’t remain in countries forever; they have tours of duty. They live and work temporarily in countries that are not their own. Likewise, we are not here forever – we are on a tour of duty, with a mission and purpose.
